Rudy and Bazel lived on a farm located one mile south and two miles east of the Homestead. They were active members of the Chattanooga First Baptist Church, where Rudy was a deacon and Bazel taught Sunday School for years. They also had a cabin at Falls Creek, a Baptist encampment near Davis, Oklahoma. They would go to their little cabin and stay for days at a time, enjoying all the good singing and preaching and fellowship that Falls Creek had to offer. Rudy and Bazel were also very generous when it came to helping young preachers get their education.

After their retirement from the farm, Rudy and Bazel built a new house in Chattanooga. A few years after Rudy died, Charlie and Crystal Ochsner built a house right across the street from Bazel. Bazel kept a vegetable garden in her backyard. She was always up for a board game with Charlie and Crystal's grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they came to visit.
